TEAM: Nine members and a friend of NARFE CHAPTER 2 are pictured before the Topeka Walk to

End Alzheimer’s kicked off the morning of June 13th. The 2015 tee shirt slogan reads

"THE END OF ALZHEIMER’S STARTS WITH YOU."

The team contributed $517 to help the local chapter meet 90% of its goal.

NARFE was formed in February 1921 by 14 federal employees. This occurred shortly after the U.S. Congress

had voted approval of a retirement program for federal employees.

On September 28, 1947, the Topeka group was chartered with 190 members, the first in the nation to do so.

At that time, the Washington, D.C., chapter was also seeking to incorporate and requested from the

Topeka group that the national chapter be allowed to have the first chapter designation.

The Topeka group agreed, and thereafter were known as Chapter 0002.
